Many Facebook users enjoy the new Timeline layout because it is visually interesting, easy to personalize, and tells your personal story in a unique way. This is exactly what Facebook’s founder, Mark Zuckerberg, aimed for when he introduced Timeline to the world in late 2011. However, Facebook has held off making this feature mandatory for private profiles until now.
As of tomorrow, August 8, Facebook will switch all personal profiles to the Timeline layout. That’s right – all of Facebook’s 955 million users will be forced into using Timeline. So the question arises – why?
Mark Zuckerberg explains, “Millions of people curate stories of their lives on Facebook every day and have no way to share them once they fall off your profile page…we have been working on Timeline all year…it’s the story of your life and completely new way to express yourself. It has three pieces: all your stories, your apps, and a new way to express who you are.”
Timeline allows users to share important activities and milestones from their entire lives, including birthdays, first days of school, and anniversaries. Facebook wants people to share their entire story on their Facebook profile. Granted, the new layout is very visual and definitely encourages sharing, but have you found it easy to use? What are your favorite features and functions? We would love to hear what you think.
