Are You LinkedIn? :: Part 1 of 4

Are you LinkedIn? LinkedIn is the “world’s largest professional network” and can bring value to your dental practice. An optimized and productive LinkedIn profile can bring tremendous SEO and social benefits, so it’s vital to use this online network well. We will assist you in optimizing and managing your LinkedIn account and will supply practical suggestions and tips so that you can keep your profile updated and fresh.

Now that your profile is set up, what’s next? Now you’ll need to start making connections. There are a few ways to do this:

Connect with people you already know

This feature allows you to import your email contacts, making it easy to connect with your friends and colleagues. Simply click the “Add Connections” button. You can also invite contacts who are not currently on LinkedIn. This is a great way to increase connections and to inform your colleagues that you are on LinkedIn.

People you may know

This useful feature references the information you have provided to suggest people you might have professional relationships with. LinkedIn uses information such as your current or former places of employment, your education, your interests, and the area you live and work in to discover people that may have common ground with you.

The contents of this box change regularly, so you’ll want to check it regularly to see if any of your friends or colleagues show up. Additionally, you can use LinkedIn’s search feature to find people you wish to connect with.

Joining Groups

Making a success of social media requires that you be, to put it simply, social! A great way to achieve this is by joining a LinkedIn group. This feature allows you to join different groups in your chosen field or related to a topic you’re interested in. The “Groups you may like” feature presents you with groups that LinkedIn suggests for you based on the information in your profile.

By joining groups, you increase your presence on LinkedIn and show your potential connections that you are an authority in your field. For example, if you join a “dental” group and browse the group’s discussion, you can potentially get involved in a conversation or answer some questions. By engaging in this way, you show yourself to be a valuable resource and an authority in your industry. As people recognize you as such, the traffic to your profile will increase and you’ll gain valuable connections.

You can access this feature by clicking the “Groups” tab at the top of your profile. You can also search for groups related to your field by using the search bar.

Following companies

Connecting with individuals is not the only way to increase your presence on LinkedIn. You can also follow companies that you are affiliated with or that you are interested in. Again, LinkedIn uses your profile information to provide you with ideas of which companies to follow. This is a unique way to receive regular updates from companies you are interested in and also a great opportunity to interact with them.

Once you start following a company, you’ll receive their updates in your feed, which may include their most recent blog posts or latest news. You have the opportunity to share or comment on this content.

There are many useful and unique features available on LinkedIn – it is truly different from any other social network. Its functions allow you to easily engage with your peers and market yourself as the professional authority in your field.
