We believe Facebook promotions can be a key part of a solid social media marketing strategy. In fact, many of our clients have conducted exciting Facebook promotions that increased page likes, comments, and overall reach. Additionally, promotions excite patients and keep them invested in your practice, even when they’re not physically in the office!
Did you know, however, that there are specific rules to running a promotion on Facebook? Many do not realize this; even those that are familiar with the rules may find them confusing. It is vital to cooperate with these guidelines to prevent possible suspension or deletion of your Facebook page.
Promotions are such a key component in your marketing strategy that it is our goal to help you so that you can understand these guidelines and run successful promotions.
Here are some of the key rules you need to know:
Don’t run promotions on your Timeline.
Facebook requires that you use a third-party app or custom tab to hold your sweepstakes or contest. It is against their rules to run the promotion on your timeline.
Don’t use Facebook features or functionality as a “voting” mechanism or as entry into a contest.
An action on Facebook can’t be means of an entry. This includes liking a status, liking a page, liking a photo, commenting on your wall, commenting on your status, tagging a photo or uploading a photo. You must have an entry form on a third party app or custom tab.
Don’t notify winners through Facebook.
You cannot notify your winners through Facebook messages, chat, or a post on a profile or page. You must notify the winners through email, phone, in person, or another non-Facebook method.
Do acknowledge that the promotion you are running is in no way sponsored, endorsed by, administered by, or associated with Facebook.
You must include the required legal language. When an entrant releases their personal information to you, you must clarify this information is not going to Facebook and that they are no way affiliated with your promotion.
Do make use of what is allowed.
You can still request that people must ‘like’ your page before accessing an entry form. This is called a Fangate. Additionally, you can have people upload photos and videos within an application (just not on your Timeline). You can also talk about and promote your contest on your Timeline, which is a great way to create hype and to remind your fans to enter.
